It's been two months

It's been way too long since I've written in this thing. I got the job in San Diego and we picked up and moved across the country. We're currently living in a hotel until we have a place to live. The sale on our house in Virginia closes on Wednesday. We're not making as much money as we'd like but we're still making a big heap. We found a great house out here but we can't get our loan unless Sean's got a job. If he doesn't have one by Wednesday, we're going to Plan B: bail out of buying the house, put our down-payment money in a high-interest savings account and rent a house here in Rancho Bernardo. It's a really nice part of town with good schools and we can afford to rent a pretty nice place here. And the five-minute commute doesn't hurt, either. Sean's had one interview so far and he's got one lined up for Friday. The one on Monday was with Northrop Grumman. They said they were looking for an AV guy but it turns out that what they really want is a photographer. Sean thought the interview was going really well until they asked to see his pictures. Since nobody told him to bring any, he was unprepared. The interview on Friday is with the Boy Scouts of America. Basically he would be a professional Boy Scout. He would go around and make sure the different troops have volunteers and are trained and stuff. I think it would be perfect for him since he's an Eagle Scout and he's still really into Boy Scouts. He's been a Scout Master, Assistant Scout Master, Scout Committee Chairman, Merit Badge Councilor and he's worked camp staff, so yeah, he would be perfect for that job.

The kids are doing great in school. Nick lucked out and is going to one of the only middle schools in San Diego County with an orchestra. He's got his first concert on November 7th. He's getting really good on his violin. I really enjoy hearing him practice. He's decided that he wants to make some extra cash as a street musician. We're pretty sure that if he went to the Highland Games or a Renaissance Fair in full-on highland dress with a kilt and everything and rocked out on some jigs and reels with his violin case open on the ground with a few bucks in it, he would clean up.

Emily is already friends with half the kids in her class. In Emily's world, there are her friends and the kids who aren't her friends yet, which is a good attitude to have when you're in fourth grade (much better than the "Everybody hates me" attitude that I always had.) Right now she's running for student-body secratary. The poster she made is pretty funny. It says "Please Vote for Me" really big in the middle and it's surrounded by little cartoons that she drew. She's been drawing these little cartoon bunnies bent on world domination.

My diet and exercise has pretty much sucked since we left Virginia. Not having our own place makes it difficult but that's not a very good excuse.

Here's my diet and exercise log for yesterday:

B: Oatmeal with peanut butter & brown sugar, mixed fruit, 2 hard-boiled eggs
L: Shrimp & Veggie stir-fry with rice and salad
S: Granola bar, banana
D: Chicken wings, rice, salad and 2 rolls (okay, I probably shouldn't have had the second roll but I was still hungry and it was a better choice than a cookie.)

Workout: 30 minute jog on the treadmill. Sean actually came down to the exercise room and worked out with me. It was fun.
