The scale made me happy!

I'm down another pound and a half! Another half a pound and I'll have finally lost the 10 pounds I put on since moving. If I continue at this rate, I'll hit my ultimate weight-loss goal by Christmas. I've been doing the mostly vegetarian thing for 18 days now and I haven't been feeling hungry or deprived at all. Actually, I haven't had any fish for over a week. I'm not gonna say that I'll never eat fish again since there will be a sushi bar on the cruise we're going on in a few weeks but it'll probably become a once-in-a-blue-moon thing.

Here's what I ate yesterday:

B: oatmeal, blueberries, soymilk
L: bean burrito & chips
D: macaroni & fake cheese, salad
S: frozen fruit bar

Looking back at what I ate, I'm not eating quite enough veggies. I need to work on that.

Cars

We went and saw Cars after work last night. It was fun! Like all Pixar movies, it was a lot better than I expected it to be. It wasn't the best Pixar movie. It wasn't as good as say The Incredibles or Toy Story or Finding Nemo but it was at least equal to Monsters Inc or A Bug's Life. Afterward we went to California Pizza Kitchen and I had this veggie stir-fry pasta thing. It was tasty but on the cold side (I don't think it was supposed to be cold.) Sean was all disappointed 'cuz they took the Peking Duck pizza off the menu.

We picked up some new music in the past few days. I'm really enjoying Angels and Airwaves. I haven't listened to the whole album yet since I feel compelled to listen to "The Adventure" over and over again. We also got Rock Kills Kid, Arctic Monkeys and The Fray. I haven't listened to those yet. I'm excited about Arctic Monkeys though. That "I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor" song is addictive.

Here's what I ate yesterday:

B: oatmeal, blueberries, soy milk
L: orange tofu stir-fry
S: carrot sticks
D: veggie pasta stir-fry

Oh, and I had some red vines at the movie. Probably not the best choice nutrition-wise but at least I didn't have any of the butter-drenched popcorn that Sean and the kids were eating.

Emily's Birthday

Emily just turned 10 yesterday. She had a big party on Saturday with all her friends. It was very successful and she got a lot of good birthday loot. I've discovered that a great way to entertain a group of 10-year-old girls for hours on end is to have them play Karaoke Revolution.

On the diet and exercise front, I missed almost a whole week of exercise since I came down with a nasty cold last week. I'm just starting to get over it so I think I'll be able to workout tonight or tomorrow. My eating is going great. I did eat a tiny piece of Emily's birthday cake even though it had milk and eggs in it. I would've made it myself but my vegan baking skills aren't quite where they need to be yet. I did manage to resist the tater tot casserole that Emily asked me to make for her birthday dinner yesterday. After I pulled it out of the oven and saw all the grease pooling on top, it didn't look quite as appetizing as I remember it. Sean said it was really good but really heavy. He's kind of gotten used to the vegetarian food I've been cooking over the last few weeks. I've decided that my long term goal for eating is to cook all vegan food at home and allow myself small amounts of cheese and eggs at restaurants once I get down to a healthy weight.

Here's what I ate yesterday:

B: WW toast with non-hydrodenated margarine
L: veggie burger on a WW bun with zucchini
S: celery sticks
D: veggie riblets, tater tots, salad, dressing
S: rice dream

Doing the Happy Dance!

I weighed myself this morning and I'm down 1.5 pounds in the past five days. I haven't been down to 172 since before we moved. I really think it's the cheese that's making the biggest difference. I haven't even felt hungry at all. With success like this, I can really see myself staying a vegetarian long-term (for one thing it pisses off parents and in-laws and annoying church ladies which is fun.) I can only imagine how loudly my in-laws will complain when they come out to visit at the end of the month.

mom-in-law: I can't eat that, it's too much CAAAHBS (Boston to American translation: "carbs")
dad-in-law: I eat all the meat I want and I'm not fat (he's not exactly healthy either, you should see how this man eats, it's truly frightening)

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! It'll be fun!

I tried a really easy tofu recipe last night. My whole family ate it and liked it! I cut up a block of tofu into little triangles and browned them in a little canola oil. Then I simmered it in this really good peanut butter sauce. I got the recipe from a book called "This Can't be Tofu!". It was really, really good. Tofu kinda has the consistancy of eggs. It's really bland but if you cook it with a really flavorful sauce or really strong seasonings, it's actually really good. If decided that the only way to really pull this diet off is to like cooking and be a little bit daring.

Here's what I ate yesterday:

B: banana, 1/2 c. oatmeal, 1/2 c. blueberries, 3/4 c. soymilk
L: Orange tofu, 3/4 c. rice, salad (I went to a great little chinese place near my work, it was yummy)
D: Tofu w/ peanut butter sauce, 1/2 c. rice, roasted beets
S: frozen fruit bar
